With our trip to Disneyland Paris quickly approaching, I decided to get the sewing machine out and make some custom jackets. This is a great way of creating a unique piece, or upcycling an old jacket. If you know your way around a sewing machine, this is achievable for beginners onwards.
For mine, I used a New Look 915 denim jacket (product code: 561415045), for the girls I used a Next Younger Girls denim jacket (product code: 185-132). I sourced the fabric locally from Material Magic in Leicester, and the white cotton thread from Hobbycraft.

Once the panels were cut out and pinned, it took about 10-15 minutes to sew on my Janome sewing machine. Although a regular needle can be used to achieve this look, I recommend using a denim needle.

With the end of the summer sales still on, now is the perfect time to grab a bargain to upcycle, alternatively, you could check your local charity shops or dig out an old jacket you haven’t worn for a long time that has been hiding in the back of your wardrobe!
Let your creative streak run wild,
Happy sewing,
Elisabeth
